UK Immigration & UK Visa is now a point based system (PBS) under which migrants are assessed for them to live, work, study or settle in the UK.. Since 4 July 2011 the second set of changes in Tier 4 (General) visa rules of the points-based system have come into effect. These changes apply to both Student - Adult visa and Student - Child visa which are under Tier 4 of the points-based system.

• Restricting work entitlements: Only sponsored by higher education institutions (HEIs) and publicly funded further education colleges should allow students to work part-time during term time and full time during vacations.
• Restricting sponsorship of dependants to: students who are sponsored by HEIs on post-graduate courses lasting 12 months or longer and students who are sponsored on courses lasting longer than 6 months by UK government.
• Requiring institutions to confirm that any new courses represent genuine academic progression from the previous course studied in the UK.

Tier 1 : For highly skilled migrants, entrepreneurs, investors, and graduate students. This replaced the previous Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP), the Entrepreneur and Investor schemes, and the International Graduates Scheme.

Tier 2 : This is for skilled workers who have a job offer. This tier encompasses the previous UK Work Permit rules.

Tier 3 : For a limited numbers of lower skilled workers to fill temporary shortages in the labour market.

Tier 4 : Students.

Tier 5 : For youth mobility and temporary workers, such as those who come under Working Holiday agreements with other countries
